Setup guide
Garage Ask keeps your vehicle maintenance records and lets an AI assistant such as Claude read and update them for you. This page covers setup, what the connector can do, and how to get help.
Add it to Claude
- In Claude, open the Garage Ask listing in the connector directory and choose Connect. If you would rather add it by hand, open Settings, then Connectors, then Add custom connector.
- Paste this address:
https://mcp.garageask.com/mcp
- Choose Connect. You are sent to our sign-in page: allow access, then sign in or create an account. Your email address identifies your account.
- Back in Claude, ask it to add your vehicle, for example: Add my 2017 Jeep Wrangler JK, call it the Jeep.
Things to try
- I changed the oil on the Jeep at 84,200 miles. Synthetic, 5 quarts, about $42.
- When did I last do the brakes on the Jeep?
- Save the tire size and torque specs for the Jeep: 255/75R17, lug nuts 100 ft-lb.
- Remind me to rotate the tires in October or at 90,000 miles.
- Export everything you have saved about my vehicles.
What the connector can do
Garage Ask provides 18 tools. Read tools look things up. Write tools save or change records you ask for. Delete tools remove data permanently, so the assistant should confirm with you first. The server marks the same split in its MCP annotations: reads carry readOnlyHint, deletes carry destructiveHint.

Tool reference
Each tool acts only on your own garage, using the identity from your sign-in rather than anything the assistant supplies. Delete tools are permanent, which is why the assistant must confirm before using one.
| Tool | Type | What it does | Needs |
|---|---|---|---|
list_vehicles | Read | Lists active vehicles with the latest mileage. Changes nothing. | — |
get_service_history | Read | Service entries, newest first, optional category filter, 20 per page (max 100). Changes nothing. | — |
get_specs | Read | Saved specs such as oil type, tire size or torque. Changes nothing. | — |
list_reminders | Read | Open reminders, optionally including completed ones. Sends nothing. | — |
export_data | Read | Everything saved about your vehicles, as JSON. Changes nothing. | — |
add_vehicle | Write | Adds a vehicle. The nickname must be unique among your active vehicles. | nickname |
update_vehicle | Write | Edits a vehicle or archives it. Archiving hides it from lists and keeps its records. | vehicle |
log_service | Write | Records one completed job. Saves past work in any order and flags a mileage that looks out of line for its date. Not for odometer readings. | performed_on, title |
update_service | Write | Corrects an existing entry. Only the fields you supply change. | event_id |
record_odometer | Write | Records the vehicle’s current mileage. Refuses a reading below the current one. | odometer |
set_spec | Write | Saves or replaces one spec on a vehicle. | key, value |
add_reminder | Write | Stores an open reminder. It never sends a notification. | title plus a due date or mileage |
complete_reminder | Write | Marks one reminder done. Records no work and no mileage. | reminder_id |
delete_vehicle | Delete | Permanently deletes the vehicle with its entries, specs and reminders. Cannot be undone; refused unless the nickname matches exactly. | vehicle, confirm_nickname |
delete_service | Delete | Permanently deletes one service entry. Cannot be undone. | event_id |
remove_spec | Delete | Permanently removes one spec. The value is not recoverable. | key |
delete_reminder | Delete | Permanently deletes one reminder. Cannot be undone. | reminder_id |
delete_my_account | Delete | Deletes all your records and disconnects every assistant. Requires the exact phrase DELETE MY ACCOUNT. Cannot be undone. | confirm |
Limits
- Per account: up to 25 vehicles, 5,000 service entries, 200 open reminders, and 100 specs per vehicle. Going past one returns an error naming the cap.
- Service history returns 20 entries by default and up to 100 per request, newest first.
- The sign-in and callback pages allow 15 requests per 10 seconds from one address. A burst is blocked for a few seconds, then clears. Normal use, including saving records from a chat, is not affected.
- There is no per-request throttle on the connector itself. The caps above are per account, not per day.
Messages you may see
- This connection is read-only. The assistant was connected with read access only. Reconnect and allow write access to save records.
- Vehicle limit reached. Delete or archive a vehicle before adding another.
- Service log limit reached. The account holds the maximum number of entries.
- That mileage is lower than the last recorded reading. Shown only when recording today’s odometer, which cannot go backwards. Check the number and the vehicle.
- Which vehicle? Nothing matched, or several did. The message lists the nicknames that exist.
- No such service entry. The entry is not in your account, or was already deleted.
- A reminder needs a due date, a due mileage, or both. Add one so it can be tracked.
- Not deleted. A confirmation did not match what was asked for: the exact vehicle nickname, or DELETE MY ACCOUNT.
Your data
- Only your own records are returned to you. Every request is checked against your signed-in account.
- Ask your assistant to export your data at any time. You get everything as JSON.
- Ask it to delete a vehicle, an entry, or your whole account. Account deletion removes all records and disconnects every assistant. It cannot be undone.
- Details are in the privacy policy and the terms of use.
Troubleshooting
- Claude says the connector needs authentication. Remove the connector and add it again to restart sign-in.
- Sign-in fails or says your email is not verified. Garage Ask requires a verified email address. Verify it with the sign-in provider and try again.
- Something looks wrong in your records. Ask the assistant to show your service history or export your data, then tell it what to correct.
